Past Editions

Human Rights Nights was born in 2001 as an annual international film festival on the theme of human rights. Since 2006 it has expanded its program with exhibitions of contemporary art and music to recognize and celebrate the courage, vision and integrity of individuals and communities against injustice and suffering, engaging in enhancing the strength and creativity of a society that we hope to be more ethical and multicultural.

To date, the festival has grown in terms of content, the public and media interest: 6 to 50 documentary films and fiction with national premieres; to an audience of 300 people at a current presence of more than 15,000 spectators and a growing participation of guests including Nobel Prize winners Luis Sepulveda, Dario Fo and Wislawa Szimborska, directors Spike Lee, Fernando Solanas, Gianni Mina, Saverio Costanzo, Gianfranco Rosi, writers Carlo Lucarelli, Pino Cacucci, Marcello Flores, journalists, specialists, activists and personalities from the cinema and culture of the city of Bologna, as Vittorio Boarini, Chiara Segafredo, Guy Lydster, Dim Sampaio, Aliona Shumakova, Elves Reiter, Gianni Sofri, Matilde Callari Galli, Roberto Grandi, Anna Maria Gentili, Andrea Segre.
