Since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, there has been a marked increase in forced prostitution and in the trafficking of women in Eastern Europe. This film presents testimonials of women who have been victimized by a prostitution industry thriving in the absence of proper regulation. In her directorial debut, filmmaker and television journalist Mira Niagolova looks at the economic destitution and hopes for new opportunity that drive women into the industry, and the dangers that result.
Mira Niagolova obtained a Masters Degree in Literature and Cinema, Sofia University and Post-graduate Diploma in Communications (Film and TV Production) Concordia University, Montreal. She worked as an anchor and film journalist with the Cinema Department at Bulgarian National Television. In 1992 she moved to Canada. Since 1995 Mira has worked on various projects with the International Program, National Film Board of Canada. 'Trafficking Cinderella' is her debut as an independent producer and director.
